Book a summer to die7/8/2023 I had just turned nineteen - just finished my sophomore year in college - when I married a Naval officer and continued the odyssey that military life requires. High school was back in New York City, but by the time I went to college (Brown University in Rhode Island), my family was living in Washington, D.C. I was born in Hawaii, moved from there to New York, spent the years of World War II in my mother’s hometown: Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and from there went to Tokyo when I was eleven. I was a solitary child who lived in the world of books and my own vivid imagination.īecause my father was a career military officer - an Army dentist - I lived all over the world. That left me in-between, and exactly where I wanted most to be: on my own. Little brother Jon was the only boy and had interests that he shared with Dad together they were always working on electric trains and erector sets and later, when Jon was older, they always seemed to have their heads under the raised hood of a car. My older sister, Helen, was very much like our mother: gentle, family-oriented, eager to please. "I’ve always felt that I was fortunate to have been born the middle child of three. Nen and the lonely fisherman7/8/2023 Ian Eagleton’s lyrical love story is reminiscent of classic Hans Christian Andersen, while James Mayhew’s water colour washed pictures are gentle, luminescent, rich and meaningful. Thereafter, where might their secretive laughter, talking and dreaming lead? Is it possible that Nan’s father’s rage at his son might damage everything that Nen and the Lonely Fisherman are building? His power is infinite, it seems… Or might it be that Ernest, is somehow different and Nen will do anything to rescue his fisherman? Could it be that the ‘ ripple, shimmer, flicker‘ might be Nen- a Merman? It demands that he must follow the ‘magical voice’ on a journey out to sea. Like Nen, Ernest is lonely, Therefore, one night, when he is watching out to sea, he hears Nan’s lament that stirs a ‘long-forgotten feeling’ within his heart. His explorations take him closer to the shore, where he watches Ernest, a fisherman. Thereafter he sings a sad song, that the ‘twinkling stars’ whisper across the oceans, though it seems smothered by the clouds. While Nen loves exploring ‘ the ancient, wild depths‘ and beyond his ocean home, somehow he feels ’empty’. Morning star pierce7/8/2023 Pierce said a previous probe into the incident found the allegations were “completely without merit.” He called McGarrigle “embittered” and called his suit “nothing but an attempt to shake down both me and a well-regarded television company.” “I will fight this entirely meritless lawsuit and not allow it to destroy me and those I love, or harm the causes we all stand for.” “They are personally offensive and perpetuate damaging stereotypes that are harmful not only to me but also to my entire community,” Pierce said. He said he “can’t begin to explain how hurt and disgusted I am by these totally untrue allegations.” Pierce, who also starred on RuPaul’s Drag Race, vehemently denied the allegations in a statement to the Times on Wednesday. Among his duties listed in the suit was to serve “as an assistant and driver for Pierce.” McGarrigle said he didn’t report the sexual assault to authorities or his bosses because he feared losing his job. “I tried to fight him off, but I was weak and he was stronger than me, and he held me down,” McGarrigle told the Los Angeles Times. The far field vijay7/8/2023 The Far Field follows Shalini, a young woman who is adrift and grieving after her mother’s death, as she journeys from her comfortable home in urban Bangalore to a Kashmiri mountain village. Winner of the 2019 JCB Prize for Indian Literature With rare acumen and evocative prose, in The Far Field Madhuri Vijay masterfully examines Indian politics, class prejudice, and sexuality through the lens of an outsider, offering a profound meditation on grief, guilt, and the limits of compassion. And when life in the village turns volatile and old hatreds threaten to erupt into violence, Shalini finds herself forced to make a series of choices that could hold dangerous repercussions for the very people she has come to love. But upon her arrival, Shalini is brought face to face with Kashmir's politics, as well as the tangled history of the local family that takes her in. Certain that the loss of her mother is somehow connected to the decade-old disappearance of Bashir Ahmed, a charming Kashmiri salesman who frequented her childhood home, she is determined to confront him. In the wake of her mother's death, Shalini, a privileged and restless young woman from Bangalore, sets out for a remote Himalayan village in the troubled northern region of Kashmir. Gorgeously tactile and sweeping in historical and socio-political scope, Pushcart Prize-winner Madhuri Vijay's The Far Field follows a complicated flaneuse across the Indian subcontinent as she reckons with her past, her desires, and the tumultuous present. Chilling as some of these stories are, Dickens has managed to inject characteristically grotesque comedy as he writes of revenge, insanity, pre-cognition and dream visions, he indulges also in some debunking of contemporary credulity. His natural inclinations toward drama and the macabre made him a brilliant teller of ghost tales, and in the twenty stories presented here, which include his celebrated A Christmas Carol, the full range of his gothic talents can be seen. He had always loved a good ghost story himself, particularly at Christmas time, and was open-minded, willing to accept, and indeed put to the test, the existence of spirits. Interest in supernatural phenomena was high during Charles Dickens' lifetime. Heist society book 27/7/2023 Kat Bishop is famous for being able to have pulled off robbing the Henley.
