Nen and the lonely fisherman7/8/2023 ![]() Ian Eagleton’s lyrical love story is reminiscent of classic Hans Christian Andersen, while James Mayhew’s water colour washed pictures are gentle, luminescent, rich and meaningful. Thereafter, where might their secretive laughter, talking and dreaming lead? Is it possible that Nan’s father’s rage at his son might damage everything that Nen and the Lonely Fisherman are building? His power is infinite, it seems… Or might it be that Ernest, is somehow different and Nen will do anything to rescue his fisherman? ![]() Could it be that the ‘ ripple, shimmer, flicker‘ might be Nen- a Merman? It demands that he must follow the ‘magical voice’ on a journey out to sea. ![]() Like Nen, Ernest is lonely, Therefore, one night, when he is watching out to sea, he hears Nan’s lament that stirs a ‘long-forgotten feeling’ within his heart. His explorations take him closer to the shore, where he watches Ernest, a fisherman. Thereafter he sings a sad song, that the ‘twinkling stars’ whisper across the oceans, though it seems smothered by the clouds. ![]() While Nen loves exploring ‘ the ancient, wild depths‘ and beyond his ocean home, somehow he feels ’empty’. ![]()
